Dr. Laura Schlessinger Apologizes For Use Of The “N-Word”

Talk radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger has issued an apology for saying the N-word several times in an on-air conversation with a caller that she said was “hypersensitive” to racism.

During the exchange on Tuesday’s show, Schlessinger said the woman who called herself Jade was too sensitive for complaining that her husband’s friends made racist comments about her in their home. ( Listen to the audio on MediaMatters.org.)

After listening to the audio, it seems clear that the good doctor is terribly misguided, ignorant and/or racists in her rants and behavior.  She also may have continued her rant knowing that she would garner some attention (her ratings aren’t what they used to be).

Schlessinger said the word “Nigger” on the air 11 times and told the caller (a black female married to a white man) she should not “marry out of your race” if you don’t “have a sense of humor.”

  1. First of all, Dr. Schlessinger, like many white people do not understand that the word Nigger has social and historical significance to blacks. That’s the first thing. The second thing is it is not up to white people to tell a black person what is racist or decide how we should feel about racist comments. Thirdly, it is in fact racist to ask a black person to stand as a spokesperson for the whole black race. It presumes that we are not individuals, but some huge black monolithic mass.

And what’s up with that if you’re sensitive you shouldn’t marry outside your race? That’s highly offensive. How would Dr. Laura feel if the tables were turned. If people were making anti-Semitic comments about her like Jews are all cheap, Christ killers? Would she stand for me telling her she’s being sensitive? What if I kept saying kike, kike, kike over and over?

I will say it. She’s a racist bitch. Straight up. She can apologize all she wants.

  2. Dr. Schlessinger has been a rude big mouth for many, many years. She overpowers whomever she is talking with and tries to hide behind christianity. Let me take this road and say she needs much, much prayer!!!

  3. hmmmm… I’m not black but, I am sensitive. I’ve literally been attacked for defending friends of other races. So, yeah, some people are really scarily racists and bigoted in their views. However, not only whites are this way blacks are also, and Mexican’s too, etc. Of course not all blacks or all Mexican’s. Just as not all whites are racists.

I’ve been fortunate to have worked with many different races and ethnic groups because of my occupation. I’ve seen up-close and personal that people are people and there are good and bad in all groups. Many people only ever experience one-side of that picture because of where they are located growing up.

    • Insightful comments Ray. People from all races can exhibit racist behavior. We need to heighten everyone’s sensitivities to make this world a better place.
