NFL’s Mendenhalls Makes Headlines With Tweets on bin Laden

Pittsburgh Steelers Running Back Rashard Mendenhall’s Twitter opinions regarding the death of Osama bin Laden is generating some controversy in the social media world.  Mendenhall’s tweets questioning whether the planes that hit the World Trade Center caused the collapse of the twin towers and his expressions of sympathy for bin Laden have caused some people to question whether or not athletes should comment on newsworthy topics of the day.  Granted, many athletes, should not comment on anything but their sport because they are not well read on current events.  Mendenhall’s tweets may go against popular sentiment but he still has the right to his opinions.

On his “verified” Twitter page Mendenhall tweeted:  “What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”

Mendenhall says he believes in God and that he is not ignorant.  He simply wants people to think.  Another tweet by Mendenhall reads: “Those who judge others, will also be judged themselves.”

Many people are calling for Mendenhall to apologize.  What do you think?

  1. Montie Pierson Says:

Mr. Rashard Mendenhall did nothing wrong with his freedom of expression and thinking. He has me as one who totally agrees with what he said and thinks. I am glad to see there are young men like him, who use their brain and are very logical and sensitive to what is Godly thought. He showed he is a human being, and no one can be celebrate of the death or execution of another human being. To all you so-called American christians………
    What would Jesus think?
