Tavis Smiley Booted From Martin Luther King Event

Tavis Smiley, the PBS talk show host who has criticized President Barack Obama for not doing enough for the African-American community, says he was ousted as the speaker at a Martin Luther King luncheon because he was trying to hold the president accountable.

“I don’t see my role as one of criticizing the president. I see my role as one of holding the president – this and every other president-accountable,” Smiley said on Fox News on Monday.

“Something is wrong with this country … that so often the political right, and I am no defender of the political right … gets accused of playing the game of political correctness. What this underscores is that those on the left, the Democrats can play that game of political correctness as well,” he added.

Smiley was booted from the 20th annual MLK luncheon on Jan. 16 that is hosted by the Peoria Civic Center. The group announced last week that Smiley had been replaced by Michael Eric Dyson as the guest speaker of the event, citing people who were “upset about comments that Tavis Smiley has made.”

Note:  This website and blog has talked about Tavis Smiley for years.  You can debate whether he has had a fall from grace.  Or whether or not he is an unbiased and objective news person.  We’ve dubbed him a “whiner” and “crybaby,” but that’s just us.  Here’s a recent news article about Tavis from the Politico.

  1. Overall this is a joke
Look’s like these boule negrows lost their minds from all this self hate and racist oppression.

  2. Travis has always been jealous of our Black President.

    I wonder why

  3. This guy is not jealous of this guy. You need go study some history bad.Black’s are still slaves and try to act like folks are free.

  4. I have not heard Tavis being vocal with other sitting President, as he claims, or did he just not get the coverage. Interestingly he received coverage from Fox News….hummm?

  5. Warlock Asylum Says:

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. If he Travis has beef with President Obama, then that is what that is. It doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be allowed to speak at an MLK event because his respect and admiration for Dr. King has nothing to do with his relationship with President Obama. Here is what America has yet to learn:

    stay blessed.

  6. What’s interesting and surprising to me, is that they canceled Tavis Smiley and replaced him with the likes of Michael Eric Dyson. It makes no sense what so ever. It seems that removing Tavis Smiley signified MLK would be less than pleased with Tavis’s remarks against the first Black President post the U.S. Constitution. If this be the case, to replace Smiley with an individual that embraces the N word Ni**a/Ni**er makes NO sense at all. I feel certain that Martin Luther King Jr. would not condone the embracing of the N word Ni**a/Ni**er by someone that is supposedly highly educated. Reminds me of the book by Carter G. Woodson titled “The Mis-Education of the Negro”. It’s like the pot calling the kettle BLACK. A Black Man Who Cares

  7. This is the real deal, one more time. The whole concept of the Talented Tenth is outdated and basically some type of updated slave type theory that so-called Black Leaders or Black Leadership refuses to let go. Out of all this Talented Tenth brainpower male or female. Has anybody decided to do something like create some liberation currency instead of arguing back and forth as to who will get access to some money given to them by somebody white or some white ran company

  8. This is my first time pay a visit at here and i am
truly impressed to read all at alone place.
